Guard Card
Training
BSIS requires all individuals to take and complete the 8-hour Guard Card course. Registrants must also undergo a criminal background check (live scan) prior to applying and receiving their guard card.
There are 32 remaining training hours, for a total of 40 hours, required to be completed within 6 months after issuance. See package deals.
This course is no longer offered online per the BSIS, this is an in person class only
Continuing Education
All licensed guards shall complete no less than 32 hours of training in security officer skills within six months from the date the guard card is issued. Sixteen (mandatory classes) of the 32 hours shall be completed within 30 days from the date the guard card is issued.
Eight (8) hours of continuing training must be completed annually (BPC 7583.6 and California Code of Regulations (CCR) Section 643).

All registered security guards are required to maintain their certificate of completion of the required training until the registration expires or has been canceled (BPC 7583.6). Employers are required to maintain records for the duration of the registrant’s employment.
